Lopez Kambosos Fight Finally set for Nov. 27 at Madison Square Garden

George Kambosos‘ belated world title fight against lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez is set to take place in November with new promoters Matchroom to make a formal announcement on the rescheduled fight.

Teofimo Lopez’s long-awaited lightweight title defense against George Kambosos Jr. is finally set for Nov. 27 at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City, fight promoter Matchroom Boxing announced on Wednesday. It will be broadcast on DAZN.

Lopez (16-0, 12 KOs) and Kambosos Jr. — an undefeated Australian fighter (19-0, 10 KOs) — were supposed to meet on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, because of scheduling conflicts and a positive COVID-19 test from Lopez, the matchup was postponed to the new date.

The latest drama came in early October when the fight’s original promoter, Triller, was found in default of its contractual obligation to stage the championship bout on Oct. 4 by the IBF. The organization awarded the rights to Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing, who worked with DAZN on the broadcast.

Lopez, 24, is one of the rising stars of the sport. He put his stamp on boxing with one of the best performances of 2020, a unanimous decision win over former pound-for-pound king Vasiliy Lomachenko last October.

The company acccused Kambosos of demanding $414,000 for his signature along with having his share of the purse put in escrow, when they tried to move the fight for the fifth time within weeks of the event.
